Why this tool

Nothing between you and the file.

No browser extension. No sketchy APK. No ten-tab redirect gauntlet. Just your link, a quality, and a download button that shows up when the file is actually ready.

Actually free

Every download is free. No credits, no paywall quietly hiding the good quality.

One honest button

The download appears only when a real file is ready — never a fake button that opens an ad.

Your call on quality

Pick a ceiling up to 1080p. The original decides what is genuinely available.

Private stays private

Locked, paid and protected posts are never opened, and we never ask for a password.

How it works

Link in. File out.

The whole thing is three plain steps — no detours.

  1. Copy the link

Open the video and copy its public share link.

  2. Choose the quality

Pick the highest resolution you need, up to 1080p.

  3. Download

When the file is ready, hit Download and keep the MP4.

In more detail

How downloading in the browser actually works

You paste a public link, our server asks the platform for the media it points to, and the finished file comes back to your browser as an ordinary download. Nothing is installed, and nothing is captured from your screen.

Nothing to install

The whole flow happens in the page you are already on, so it is identical on a phone, a tablet and a desktop — Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge all behave the same. No extension, no APK, no desktop app.

MP4 that plays anywhere

Files come back as MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio: the most widely playable combination there is. It opens on phones, laptops, smart TVs and in common editors without codec packs or converters.

Sound included

YouTube splits picture and sound above 720p, and Reddit does it on nearly everything. Both streams are fetched and merged before the file reaches you — which is why clips saved here are not silent.

Quality is a ceiling

You pick a maximum up to 1080p and the original decides the rest: ask for 1080p on a 720p upload and you get 720p. Prefer just the soundtrack? Switching to audio returns a 192 kbps MP3.

Mobile apps

Your pocket downloader. Soon.

Native Android and iOS apps are in the works. Until then, this site is built mobile-first — save it to your home screen and it already works like an app.

FAQ

Good to know before you download.

The fine print, in normal language.

What links work?

Public YouTube videos and Shorts, Instagram Reels and video posts, TikTok videos and share links, X (Twitter) video posts, Facebook videos and Reels, and Reddit posts that contain video.

Is Simple Video Downloader really free?

Yes. There is no account, no trial and no paywall. Paste a public link and download the file.

Can I download just the audio?

Yes. Switch the format to Audio only (MP3) and Simple Video Downloader extracts the soundtrack server-side into a standard MP3 file.

Can I download private videos?

No. Simple Video Downloader does not sign into accounts or open private, paid, age-restricted or protected videos.

Do you need my platform login?

Never. You paste a public link, not your password.

Can I choose 1080p?

You can request up to 1080p. If the original is lower, or the platform exposes a different format, that is what will be available.

Why did my link fail?

The post may be private, removed, restricted, photo-only, temporarily unavailable or affected by a platform change.

What am I allowed to download?

Videos you own, videos the creator has allowed you to save, or media you are otherwise legally entitled to download.
