Above 720p is always a merge
YouTube stops serving a single combined file above 720p — picture and sound arrive separately. Every 1080p download is merged on our server first, which is why it still has audio.
Which links resolve
Watch, youtu.be, Shorts, live and embed addresses all work. Playlist, channel and search URLs do not — there is no single video at those, so open the video itself first.
The ceiling is not a promise
Ask for 1080p on a video that was uploaded at 720p and 720p is what you get. The original upload always decides what is genuinely available.
What is never opened
Age-restricted, members-only and private videos are out of scope by design, and your YouTube password is never requested at any point.
