Downloaded video has no audio
The file saved fine but plays in silence. Three checks, in this order, identify which of the three quite different causes you are looking at.
Three checks, in order
- Does the original actually have sound?
Play the original post with your volume up. A surprising share of social clips are silent at the source: many Reddit posts, muted uploads, and clips where the platform removed audio for a rights claim. No tool can add sound that was never in the file — so if the original is silent, that is your answer.
- Did the file lose its audio track?
Platforms store video and audio as separate streams at higher qualities. A downloader that grabs only the video stream hands you a silent file. This is the classic cause, and it is exactly what our processing server is built to avoid — it fetches both streams and merges them before the file reaches you, which is why downloads here arrive with sound. If your silent file came from a different tool, that is almost certainly what happened; re-download it here. - Is it your device or player?
If the file is silent on one device but fine on another, the audio track is present and the problem is codec support. Opus audio inside a WebM container plays silently on some TVs and older phones. Playing it in VLC is a fast way to confirm — if VLC has sound, it is your player. Keeping downloads as MP4 with AAC audio, which is what we produce by default, avoids this entirely. If the original has sound, you downloaded here, and it plays silently in VLC too, let us know the link — that combination is unusual and worth looking at. Otherwise, head back to the downloader and grab it again.
